Hudson Laboratory: Research and Development

Hudson Laboratory is the control center for the entire corporation’s quality efforts. The lab’s experienced staff and accreditation work increase Hudson’s productivity by ensuring quality.

In 1987, the federal Strategic Highway Research Program (SHRP) began developing a new system for specifying asphalt materials called “Superpave.” This stands for “superior performing asphalt pavements”. It’s an improved testing and criteria system for specifying component materials, asphalt mixture design and analysis, and pavement performance prediction. We were among the first in the country to successfully perform tests on Performance Grade (PG) Asphalt to meet Superpave requirements for physical characteristics testing on all materials.

All of our technicians are New England Transportation Technician Certification Program (NETTCP)-Certified experts, and we are an American Association of State Highway Transportation Officials (AASHTO)-Certified Lab. We are a member of the New England Asphalt User Producer Group (NEAUPG). We conduct frequent certification testing and meet all the stringent quality control standards to be a NEAUPG-approved supplier. The lab equipment and procedures are inspected and tested bi-annually by the AASHTO Materials Reference Laboratory (AMRL).
